Cookware and Care

Which pot support do I need?

Jetboil makes two pot supports, and the one you need depends on your stove model.

The newer Pot Support 2.0 is compatible with 2025 and newer Flash 1.0L, Flash 1.8L and Zip 0.8L only.

The original Pot Support is compatible with MicroMo, MiniMo, SUMO, Flash (Pre-2025 Model), and Zip (Pre-2025 Model).

Can I use the original pot support on the new Flash?

No. The original Pot Support is not compatible with 2025+ Flash 1.0L, Flash 1.8L, Zip 0.8L, and the Pot Support 2.0 won't fit older Flash and Zip models either. Using the wrong pot support may not attach securely, so always match the support to your stove.

What can I use to cook with a pot support?

A pot support lets you use flat-bottomed cookware such as the Summit Skillet, the FluxRing Cook Pot or a range of traditional pots and pans on your Jetboil burner.

Which hanging kit do I need?

A hanging kit suspends your Jetboil off the ground for cooking where there's no flat surface, such as on climbing trips.

The Hanging Kit 2.0 is compatible with the Stash, Zip, Flash, MicroMo, MiniMo and Sumo, and includes a sliding bracket to connect to the 2025 Zip 0.8L and Flash 1.0L.

Can I hang a Jetboil with a pot or skillet on it?

No. The hanging kit is designed for Jetboil's integrated cooking systems only, not for use with separate cookware and accessories.

How do I prepare a freeze dried meal with a Fast Boil system?

Boil your water in the cup, then pour it into the meal pouch and follow the pouch instructions. Don't put food or pouches without water in the cup to heat them.

Why is there a rust ring at the bottom of my cup?

A rust ring can form if a wet canister is stored in the cup, or the cup is packed away damp. It's a cosmetic issue caused by moisture during storage, not a product fault, so it isn't covered under warranty. It won't affect how your stove performs.

To remove it, gently clean the cup with a non-metal sponge and a baking soda and water paste. To stop it coming back, store your canister upside down in the cup with the cap on. This keeps the canister rim off the bottom of the cup.

How do I clean the burner?

Make sure the burner is cool and disconnected from the canister. Use a soft brush or cloth to clear debris or food from the burner head and surrounding area, keeping water out of the burner ports. If it needs more than a brush, gently use a mild detergent and water solution, then let it dry completely before reassembling.

How do I clean my Jetboil cup?

Boil a mix of roughly three parts water to one part white vinegar in the cup for a few minutes, then scrub off any residue with a non-metallic pad. A paste of baking soda and water also works well. Keep the cup out of the dishwasher, as it can damage the FluxRing, and never use powdered detergent, which may contain lye and damage the cup's surface.

What is hard anodised aluminium?

Anodising creates a very hard oxide layer on the aluminium surface. It keeps food away from bare metal and helps resist wear, though it will still wear over time. To make it last:

  • Use non-metal utensils and low-abrasion scrubbers.
  • Dry the cup well before packing a canister inside it.
  • Place a cloth between the cup and canister to prevent scratches.
  • Keep the fuel cap on the canister to stop it moving around.
What materials and finishes are used on Jetboil cookware?

All Jetboil cookware is aluminium, finished with either a ceramic coating or hard anodising.

What does the FluxRing do?

The FluxRing is Jetboil's patented heat exchanger. It captures heat from the burner and channels it into the pot instead of letting it escape, which is what makes Jetboil systems so fast and efficient.

Troubleshooting and Warranty

How do I light my Jetboil safely?

CAUTION: Always ensure burner base is stable and free of any pot prior to lighting. Gas build-up can occur, resulting in increased flame eruption.

  • Always follow the lighting instructions in your stove's manual.
  • Open the gas valve only slightly and ignite straight away. Don't let gas run before lighting.
  • If the stove doesn't light within a few seconds, turn the gas off and let any gas disperse before trying again.
  • Light your stove outdoors, in a well-ventilated area, on a stable surface.

How do I avoid dry boiling?
  • Add water to the cup before assembling and lighting the stove.
  • Fill to at least the minimum level marked in your cup, and no higher than the maximum fill line.
  • Turn the burner off as soon as your water has boiled.
  • Never leave your stove unattended while it's alight, so it can't boil dry.
Why is dry boiling a problem?

Jetboil systems deliver a concentrated flame, and the FluxRing is designed to pass that heat straight into the contents of the cup. With nothing in the cup to absorb the heat, the cup, its coating, the FluxRing and the cozy can overheat, which may cause discolouration, warping or melting.

Damage caused by dry boiling isn't considered a manufacturing defect and isn't covered under warranty.

Why did my Jetboil produce a sudden high flame when I lit it?

If the cup is attached before the stove is ignited, unburnt gas can collect beneath the cup. When this gas ignites, it can create a sudden flare-up that appears much larger and more dramatic than the normal ignition flame.

To avoid this, always ignite the stove before attaching the cup, following the lighting instructions for your model. This helps prevent gas from accumulating beneath the cup and reduces the risk of a sudden flare-up.

Can I use my Jetboil Genesis lid on the fry pan?

No. The Genesis lid is designed for use with the Genesis FluxPot only. The fry pan sits lower and closer to the flame, so a lid placed on it is exposed to much more concentrated heat, which can cause the lid to warp or melt.

Damage caused by using the lid on the fry pan isn't considered a manufacturing defect and isn't covered under warranty.

Why can't I cook food in a Fast Boil cup?

Fast Boil systems deliver a concentrated, high-output flame to boil water as quickly as possible. Without water to absorb that heat, food can burn and stick to the base of the cup, and the cup, its coating or the FluxRing can be damaged. The tall, narrow cup also makes stirring difficult, so food cooks unevenly.

Damage caused by cooking food in a Fast Boil cup, such as scorching, burnt residue or a damaged coating, isn't considered a manufacturing defect and isn't covered under warranty.

Can I cook food in my Jetboil Fast Boil system?

No. Fast Boil systems such as the Flash, Zip and Stash are designed for boiling water, not cooking food. They're perfect for coffee, tea, soup and rehydrating freeze-dried meals, but they aren't built for frying, simmering or cooking food directly in the cup.

My igniter won't spark. Is it faulty?

Check a few things first:

  • Spark gap: the spark wire needs a small gap from the metal of the stove. If it's touching or sitting too close, there'll be no spark. On older model Flash/Zip's, you can move the spark wire with your finger — adjusting the angle and proximity from the burner is likely to bring back the spark.
  • Button housing: make sure it hasn't slipped out of position.
  • Test with gas: attach a fuel canister and try again, as you may not see the spark without gas.
  • Moisture: if the stove has been wet, let the igniter dry out fully before trying again.

If the igniter still won't spark, you can light the stove carefully with a lighter or match in the meantime. Genuine Jetboil replacement igniters are available for the Flash, Sol, MiniMo and Sumo, or you can return the stove to your retailer to be assessed.

What isn't covered by the warranty?

Jetboil's warranty doesn't cover damage or malfunction caused by misuse, modification, improper maintenance, negligence, normal wear and tear, accidents, or use other than as described in the instructions. It applies only to the original purchaser, proof of purchase is required.

My stove isn't getting gas from the canister. What should I do?

Listen for a slight hiss when you screw the canister on. If there's a hiss, gas is reaching the stove. If not, try attaching the canister a little more firmly. If it still doesn't work, return it to your retailer to be assessed.

Performance

Can I swap burners and cups between models?

Not always. The Flash 1.0L and Zip 0.8L use similarly sized burners, while the new TrailCook 1.2L and TrailCook 2.0L feature an integrated, self-centering pot-support burner that is not compatible with the Flash 1.0L or Zip 0.8L.

For our older models, the Flash and Zip share the same narrow burner, while the MiniMo and Sumo use a wider burner that is not compatible with the narrower cups.

Is a Jetboil Stove good for Australian conditions?

Yes. Gas stoves are a practical alternative when fire restrictions rule out campfires. Jetboil’s integrated cooking systems are designed to heat water quickly and efficiently, while the insulated cup and FluxRing technology help reduce heat loss and fuel consumption. This makes Jetboil well suited to camping, high-country and backcountry trips across Australia.

Does Jetboil work in cold weather?

Yes, with a little planning. All canister stoves lose power in the cold because colder gas has lower pressure, which can mean slower boil times and a harder-to-light igniter. JetPower fuel's propane blend helps reduce these effects.

To get the best performance:

  • Keep your canister warm in a jacket pocket or sleeping bag, and take it out just before cooking.
  • Stand it on a piece of foam rather than snow or cold ground.
  • Carry a spare canister kept warm to swap with a cold one.
  • Always pack matches or a lighter as backup.

With the canister kept warm, Jetboil stoves still perform reasonably well at around -18°C. Altitude isn't a major issue and can even help. Jetboil stoves have been used as high as 8,000 m on Mt Everest.

If you regularly cook below about 7°C, consider the TrailCook 1.2L or TrailCook 2.0L. Their built-in regulator delivers consistent heat down to -6°C.

Fuel

How do I dispose of empty canisters?

Make sure the canister is completely empty first. The Jetboil CrunchIt tool empties and punctures JetPower and some other screw-on canisters so they can go in the recycling bin. Check your local council's recycling rules, and never put canisters in a campfire.

Can I run a Jetboil Flash from an LPG bottle?

No. The Flash only runs on isobutane/propane blend fuel and is designed to connect to Lindal-valve hiking canisters.

Why does fuel efficiency matter?

Jetboil systems can be up to twice as efficient as conventional stoves, so you can carry less fuel for the same trip. A 100gm JetPower canister boils roughly the same amount of water in a Jetboil as a 227 g canister does in many other stoves. That means less weight, less bulk and less money spent on fuel.

Why is JetPower fuel better than some other fuels?

JetPower is a blend of propane and isobutane. Propane gives higher vapour pressure for better cold-weather performance, while isobutane keeps pressure steady as the canister runs low. The 100gm canister is also sized to pack neatly inside your Jetboil cup.

Spare Parts

How do I tell if I have the old or new Flash?

Check how your stove lights. The new Flash 1.0L has a combined ignition and flame adjustment control that gets rid of the push button piezo lighter and wire flame control found on the previous model. You twist the dial to click and light it, then turn it to adjust the flame. It also has improved pot-to-burner connection with 3 locking points and visual indicators and a colourful grip zone.

If your Flash has a separate push-button igniter, it's the older model.

Travel

Can I take my Jetboil on a plane?

Yes, but not your fuel. Gas canisters aren't permitted on commercial flights, so plan to buy fuel at your destination. The stove can usually travel in checked or carry-on luggage if it's completely free of fuel and cleaned so no vapour or residue remains. Security screeners may still confiscate stoves that smell of fuel, and some airlines don't accept stoves at all, so check your airline's rules before you fly.
